A vonzatos igék (phrasal verbs) olyan igék, amelyekhez egy másik szó kapcsolódik — általában egy elöljáró (mint például: on, in, up) vagy egy határozószó (például: away, back, out).
Ezek a szavak együtt gyakran egy új jelentést hoznak létre, ami eltér az eredeti ige jelentésétől.
Például:
- get up = felkelni az ágyból (get alap jelentése: kapni, szerezni)
- look for = keresni (look alap jelentése: nézni)
- turn off = lekapcsolni valamit (turn alap jelentése: fordulni, fordítani)

It was almost Thanksgiving, and Anna wanted to make a small autumn dinner for her friends. First, she got up early to clean her kitchen. She looked for her shopping bag, but she couldn’t find it. Then she asked around and her sister told her to check the living room. Anna found it under the table.
She picked up some vegetables from the store and then went back home to start cooking. Later, her friend Tom came over to help. They set up the table together and put out some snacks. When the other friends arrived, everyone sat down and enjoyed the warm autumn dinner.
